Visitors from the States!

We were thrilled that my brother John, his partner Gerry and her grandson, Brendan, visited us in August. They spent the better part of a week with us in Wellington at the beginning, middle and end of their trip and visited the South Island and Rotorua in between.

We set Claire and Eleanor up with friends and had a lovely day touring the vineyards of Martinborough with them. We particularly liked Schubert and had a festive lunch at Tirohana -- good food and wine. The owner, Raymond Thompson is a real character: a screenwriter, composer, producer, restaurateur and... vintner!

It was heartwarming and affirming to have our US family partake in our life here and a thrill to get to show off all the cool things about New Zealand.

The following week, Ruthie arrived.  She bounced off the plane Saturday morning, not jet lagged yet, and closely followed by her new friend Phil Goff, who she sat beside on the leg from Auckland to Wellington-- they had a nice chat about politics and Kiwi customs.  She has volunteered as assistant stage manager for a local professional theatre, and is busy most evenings with their current production run.

Strawberry Fare, a restaurant just for desserts!  Happy Birthday, Ruthie.
