Day one on the Otego bike trail—a rails to trails project about 10 years old. Pretty slow going with gravel, an 8 year old on her own bike, and photo ops every 200 meters or so. About 5 hours to go 30K to our next stop at Ophir on the trail. About 58 minutes for me to bike back to the car in Alexandra on the road. I pack my bike in the car, and pick up supper at the roadside veggie stand on the way back to our hostel in Ophir. We met a very nice couple in our hostel dining area—she is a student health doctor in Christchurch, and gives me a bit of advice for my work this year in Wellington.

Ophir??!! There's another community named Ophir besides the one on the NCBC 400K?
ReplyDeleteIt's biblical--taken from gold supply for the queen of sheiba. Apparently there is also an Ophir Colorado near another gold field. John.
