Wellington errands

Mon Jan 4 Wellington:

It’s a holiday here, so banks not open. On bike for a quick spin around town. In granny gear within 2 minutes. Spent an hour or two at the local telecom shop signing up for cell phone service. Then back home to meet with the girls at the botanical gardens. Great park and playground. Called a fellow who owns a car I had been watching from the US on Trademe (NZ ebay/craigslist combo). He met us at the park with the car—Volvo 2000 v70 wagon, with the extra kids seats in the back! Seems to run ok, so we agreed to buy it the next day after the banks opened.

Tue Jan 5 Wellington:

Up at 6 (noon NC time), and on the bike for a great ride up to a mountain bike park on a local hill.  Back home to meet with girls, and head toward the bank. Our money wired from the states was in the account, and we were set up with debit cards, insurance for the new car, and met with the seller to transfer keys, documents and money to their account. Then to the post office to register the car to us, and lunch.

Next a walk downtown, watching the world unicycle championships and getting library cards. Back to the flat to repack for our South Island vacation, starting in just a few hours.
