Blue skies today for our last hike up and down, back to Akorora. The girls were great hikers despite initial reluctance and a few bribes/threats. Claire and Laura saw a baby hedgehog and we all enjoyed the amazing variety of fern plants, from the tiniest fed by the splash of waterfalls, to huge ones that are trees.
We packed up the car, and drove into Christchurch to stay with friends we met on our bike trip a couple weeks ago—Chris and Sally. Sally is a physician at the University student health clinic in Christchurch, so I got some good advice about my new job starting in a few weeks in Wellington. Chris teaches math at a local college (note: 'college' means high school here). They both are talented painters, outdoor enthusiasts, fans of Pixar animated films, and, they have an amazing Lego collection. They were great hosts to us all.
